The Centre on Wednesday notified the transfer of Justice Subramonium Prasad, Additional Judge of the Madras High Court, as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had proposed to transfer him to the Delhi High Court on February 12, the very same date it made its recommendation to transfer Justice Muralidhar from Delhi High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The notification released by Ministry of Law and Justice said, “In exercise of powers conferred by clause (q) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Subramonium Prasad, Additional Judge of the Madras High Court, as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Delhi High Court.”
In 2018, a writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of Justice Subramonium as Additional Judge on the ground that he doesn’t possess sufficient practice in the Madras High Court and also in courts subordinate to it.
Although he was elevated as the additional judge of the court.
The Supreme Court Collegium on February 12, had recommended that he should be made a permanent judge in the Madras High Court, however, on the same day it proposed his transfer vide a statement to this effect.
