The Supreme Court on Monday stayed criminal proceedings initiated against independent journalist Makepeace Sitlhou in connection with her tweets concerning the violence that erupted in Manipur earlier this year.
The Bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra further issued notice to the government of Manipur.
Representing the journalist, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal contended that Sitlhou was currently facing a first information report (FIR) in Imphal over her tweets on Manipur violence.
The Apex Court recorded in its order that the notice be served to the Standing Counsel of the Manipur government.
