The Supreme Court will hear the anticipatory bail application of expelled BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal on Monday, regarding the FIRs registered against him in different states, over remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
The former journalist had courted controversy by retweeting a controversial tweet of suspended BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammad.
This led to registering of FIRs in several states against him, including in Delhi, Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Punjab.
BJP expelled Jindal on June 5, 2022, stating that his views on social media vitiated communal harmony and were in violation of the party’s fundamental beliefs.
The party had also distanced itself from the comments made by both Jindal and Sharma.
During his more than 20 years of career as journalist, Jindal had remained associated with Zee News, Sahara and Punjab Kesari. He then drew closer to the ideology of BJP and later joined them. Jindal also unsuccessfully fought Assembly elections from Laxmi Nagar constituency in Delhi in 2003.
He was made the head of Delhi BJP media cell in 2016.
