The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the CBI on a plea seeking details of the status of the investigations into the disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his sons Akhilesh Yadav and Prateek Yadav.
A bench comprising chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta asked the CBI to file its response in two weeks. The bench was hearing a plea filed by Congress leader Vishwanath Chaturvedi seeking a direction to the probe agency to apprise the court of the status of the investigation in the case. Chaturvedi had filed the petition in 2007 and the issue coming up as when the country is in the midst of an elections thereby causing considerable embarrassment to the Samajwadi party’s top leadership.
