SC Collegium recommends 4 lawyers for judgeship of Punjab and Haryana HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of the four advocates—Manjari Nehru Kaul,  Arun Kumar Monga, Harsimran Singh Sethi and Manoj Bajaj—for elevation as Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Last year in November, the then Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues had recommended the names of 11 advocates for elevation as Punjab and Haryana High Court Judges, the Supreme Court resolution said.

The Collegium, vide a resolution dated September 4, 2018, observed “…we have carefully scrutinized the material placed in the file including the observations made by the Department of Justice therein. On the basis of material on record and having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Advocates (1) Manjari Nehru Kaul, (2) Harsimran Singh Sethi, (3) Arun Kumar Monga, and (4) Manoj Bajaj, are suitable for being appointed as Judges of the Punjab & Haryana High Court… Their inter se seniority be fixed as per the existing practice”.

The SC Collegium has deferred the names of the seven remaining lawyers for consideration at a later time.
