The Supreme Court on Tuesday (Oct 9) declined early hearing of petitions seeking recall of a Constitution bench judgment allowing entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.

The judgment was passed by a bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

The National Ayyappa Devotee (Women’s) Association, on Monday (October 8), filed a review petition in the apex court challenging the Sabarimala verdict. The plea, filed by Shylaja Vijayan, president of the association, called the apex court’s 4:1 majority judgment “absolutely untenable and irrational, if not perverse”.
