The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred the hearing of the plea by Bengal BJP against the Calcutta High Court order stopping BJP’s yatra in West Bengal to January 8.
The Bengal BJP had moved the apex court challenging the Division Bench order reversing a single bench’s tentative assent to the party’s ‘Rath Yatra‘ programme renamed as ‘save democracy rallies’ in Bengal. It had mentioned the matter for urgent hearing but the Supreme Court had denied it saying that it would hear the matter after Winter vacations.
In its plea before the Supreme Court, the BJP has challenged the Calcutta High Court order objecting that the fundamental right of the petitioner to organize a nonviolent yatra cannot be refused on the ground of mere hypothesis and speculations.
