The Supreme Court on Friday (August 24) directed BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad to give admission to a vision-impaired candidate to study MBBS in the current session as per the provisions of the Disabilities Act.
The bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee pronounced the verdict on the plea of a vision-impaired candidate seeking admission to the BJ Medical College to study MBBS which he was denied despite having cleared the entrance exam.
This particular candidate has vision of up to 20m.
In 2017, the apex court had allowed admission of two colour-blind students in the MBBS course after the an expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court said that Colour Vision Deficiency nowadays was an ordinary problem and does not substantially effected a person’s ability to become a doctor.
