The apex court on Tuesday rejected the demand of opposition parties seeking increase of the count for the verification of voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

At today’s hearing, Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi appearing for Opposition Parties submitted to the bench that the Opposition’s demand was feasible as it was sensible and having an important effect.

Upon the submissions, the CJI Ranjan Gogoi headed bench said that it was not willing to modify the order.

The bench was hearing a review petition filed by opposition parties seeking review of its April 8 order directing Election Commission (EC) to increase the VVPAT slips with EVMs from one to five polling booths in ongoing polls.
