SC refuses plea by investors seeking Court monitored probe into Saradha chit-fund scam

The Supreme Court on Monday (Feb 11) refused to entertain a plea filed by investors who had invested in the Saradha chit-fund scheme seeking a Court monitored probe into Saradha chit-fund scam.

It may be recalled that in 2013, after the scam came into light, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

In 2014, the Supreme Court had transferred the investigation to the CBI. After that CBI had detected irregularities of about Rs 2,500 crore and seized properties worth Rs 1,000 crore across several states.

High-profile persons and politicians such as Sudipta Sen, Debjani Mukherjee, Kunal Ghosh, Rajat Majumdar, Srinjoy Bose, Madan Mitra, Debabrata Sarkar and Sadananda Gogoi among others were booked by CBI in the scam.
