Punishing only man for adultery is violative of right to equality, observes SC

The apex court on Thursday (July 26) refused to take up a plea seeking setting up of special courts for cases related to MPs/MLAs practising as advocates in different courts of the country.

The matter was mentioned before the CJI Dipak Misra bench. The CJI said that there was no urgency in the matter.

It may be recalled that apex court has already ordered special courts for cases involving MPs/MLAs having criminal antecedents. The recent example is of MP Shashi Tharoor whose trial in Sunanda Pushkar death case is going on in a special court.
