The Supreme Court on Monday (April 8) declined to accord urgent hearing to a plea challenging Madras HC order banning downloading of Chinese video mobile application TikTok.
Earlier, the Madras High Court had issued the interim order to Centre to ban the app saying that it encouraged pornography thereby poisoning the young minds.
The high court had observed that the app was providing vulgar content and the government had social responsibility to rein it.
Highly favourite among the teenagers and youths, the TikTok app allows users to shoot short videos and share it with others. Globally, the app has over one billion users and in India it has close to 50 million users in India.
