The Supreme Court on Friday (Feb 22) sought response from Election Commission of India on a plea seeking direction for the government to carry out an autonomous audit review of various software products pertaining to EVM, VVPAT and ETS.
The plea filed by Advocate Sunil Ahya came up before the bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
At today’s hearing, the petitioner said that the source code of the EVMs must be audited by an independent public body. In the present scenario, the entire source code is open and it has not been audited, said Ahya.
The bench posted the matter for next hearing to March 1.
