The Supreme Court has asked the CBI to file a reply on a plea by Karti Chidambaram, son of the former finance minister P Chidambaram seeking permission to go abroad and has posted the hearing for Monday next week.
Last week, the apex court had refused an urgent hearing on the matter for which he was duly castigated by the bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and also comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao and S K Kaul. Karti facing prosecution in INX Media money laundering case lodged by the ED and is also an accused in INX Media corruption case lodged by the CBI.
Referring to Karti’s counsel’s plea for urgent hearing, the CJI said: “Who is Karti, let him stay where he is. We have more important matters to decide. We are not interested. File an application explaining your reasons. It is 10:30 and you are out of turn.”
