The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Utsav Bains, the advocate who claimed that there is a plot to frame up the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi in a sexual harassment case to file his response.
The bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra, Rohinton Fali Nariman and Deepak Gupta while posting the matter tomorrow also sought the presence of the advocate Bains before it on April 24.
The bench was acting on a case related to the sexual harassment allegations against Gogoi. The allegations have been levelled by a dismissed woman employee of the Supreme Court.
On Monday, Advocate Bains had filed an affidavit in the apex court claiming there was a larger plan being hatched to coerce CJI Gogoi to resign.
Bains has claimed in the affidavit that he declined to take up the case of woman employee as he found several loopholes in her story. Bains said that while initially he was offered Rs 50 lakh by a fixer to fight the case but when he refused, the sum was raised to Rs 1.50 crore creating further suspicion into his mind.
Bains also alleges that a ‘fixer’ tried to bribe him to organise a press conference on the matter and frame the chief justice. Bains also says he fears he may be killed with an “untraceable poison” because the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal are part of those apparently trying to frame CJI Gogoi.
