Supreme Court to hear plea challenging Agnipath scheme after vacations

The plea challenging the Centre’s newly introduced ‘Agnipath Scheme’ will now be heard by the Supreme Court.
The Agnipath scheme for recruitment in armed forces matter shall be heard by the apex court, as it reopens on July 11 after the vacation.
The new recruitment scheme named Agnipath which was announced on June 14, provides for the recruitment of youth in the age group of 17-and-a-half-years to 21 years for a four-year stint with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years.

Once the scheme was floated, the protests began in several states against the scheme. Due to the unforeseen change of situation, the Centre extended the upper age limit to 23 years for recruitment this year.

The Vacation Bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice J.K. Maheshwari said that petitions will be listed next week before an appropriate bench after the court resumes back after vacation.

As for now, the Indian Army Agneepath Recruitment 2022 has officially begun and any candidate who is interested in making his career in the defence field is welcome to apply and join the Indian Army as Agniveer under the Agnipath Scheme.
The Registrations have begun online at joinindianarmy.nic.in.
