The apex court on Monday permitted Senior Congress leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to visit Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag and Jammu.
The court allowed the visit on the pre-condition that Azad will not make any speeches or hold any public rally adhering to his own submissions.
“The petition is in my personal capacity, as a resident and as a Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir. I would like to know the plight of those lakhs of people. It is on a humanitarian basis, nothing to do with politics,” Azad had said on the filing of plea.
Azad has stated in the plea that he wants to enquire about the well-being of his family members and other dwellers of the J&K.
Azad was also a part of the delegation of opposition leaders who wanted to visit the State to review the ground reality in the State after the Centre abrogated the Articles 370 and 35A.
