A Vacation Bench of the Supreme Court on Monday directed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to approach the Mentioning Registrar, in connection with listing of his plea against the alleged demolition drive to be conducted on Jauhar University.
A Vacation Bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud passed the order on the matter mentioned before the Bench by Azam’s lawyer, Advocate Nizam Pasha.
The Apex Court said Pasha should approach the Mentioning Registrar, if he wanted the matter to be listed for urgent hearing.
On May 19, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Azam on a number of terms and conditions for his release.
More than 87 First Information Reports (FIRs) are currently registered against Khan, under Sections 153-A (Promoting hatred between various groups on religious grounds), 159 (Word, gesture, or activities intended to offend a woman’s modesty), 509 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 448 (House tress pass) and 500 (Defamation) of IPC.
Besides, he was booked under Section 171-G in multiple cases (false statement in connection with an election).
THe Lok Sabha MP from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh has remained in Sitapur jail since February, 2020.
