The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to relax the conditions of bail granted to mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy in illegal mining case.
The Bench of Justice M.R. Shah and Justice C.T. Ravikumar rejected the fresh application by Reddy seeking relaxation of bail conditions in view of upcoming elections in Karnataka.
Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora had sought further extension of his relaxation of bail condition in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka.
Earlier relaxation was given to Reddy on the ground of visiting his daughter and her newborn child.
Earlier, the top court of the country had directed the local court to conduct a day-to-day basis in the multi-million illegal mining from November 9, 2022 and conclude the same within six months.
Reddy was permitted to stay in Bellary till November 6, 2022. However, the Supreme Court directed him not to stay in Bellary from November 7, 2022, till the continuance of trial in the matter.
Reddy was arrested in September 2011 and granted bail in January 2015. While granting bail, the Apex Court had imposed a condition on him not to visit Bellary district in Karnataka and Kadapa & Anantpuram in Andhra Pradesh.
Later, he filed an application seeking to relax the bail conditions imposed on him.
