Five lawyers have been designated as Senior Advocates by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Out of five,four of the designated lawyers are advocates-on-record (AoR) at the Supreme Court.
The Lawyers who have been conferred the gown are
Kaveeta Wadia (AoR);
Harinder Mohan Singh (AoR);
Rajesh Mahale (AoR);
PV Dinesh (AoR);and
S Nandakumar (Advocate).
In January 2024,the Apex Court designated 56 advocates including 11 women as Senior Advocates.
It was after a gap of 2 years or more that the designation was given to the lawyers.Prior to this , it was way back in December 2021 that eighteen lawyers were conferred the gown.
The senior Advocate Indira Jaising had addressed a letter to the Secretary General of the Supreme Court after the latest round of designations in January this year,saying that some candidates who had qualified for the interview felt unjustifiably excluded and that they should be given a fresh chance.
