The Supreme Court has denied to hear petition filed by Federation of Automobile dealers Association pertaining to the Chandigarh administration’s electric vehicle (EV) policy 2022.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala after finding that the Punjab and Haryana High Court is already looking into the matter asked the petitioner to approach the High Court.
The policy questioned was passed by the administration for the purpose of promoting eco-friendly transport. Thus, it stated that non-electric two wheelers would not be registered between February 10 and March 31 by the Registering and Licensing Authority.
The policy was notified last year in September and will be in force for the next five years and during this time, efforts shall be made to reduce and eventually stop registering fuel-run vehicles.
The petitioners sought a stay on the policy.
