The apex court on Thursday dismissed the plea of former Union Minister P Chidambaram seeking anticipatory bail in INX Media corruption case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Rejecting the bail plea, a bench comprising R Banumathi and AS Bopanna said: “Granting anticipatory bail at the initial stage may frustrate the investigation… It’s not a fit case to grant anticipatory bail. Economic offences stand at different footing and it has to be dealt with different approach.”
The bench directed Chidambaram to move a trial court for regular bail.
The court had reserved the order on Aug 29 and extended the Chidambaram‘s interim protection from arrest till today.
