The Supreme Court has came down upon an environmentalist who filed a petition seeking for appointment as the post of President of India by removing the current President Droupadi Murmu from her post.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli took a strong view of the plea and called it scurrilous and an abuse of the process of the court.
The Bench questioned as to what kind of scurrilous petitions are these? It also questioned as to how is this (filed under) Article 32 of the constitution.
The bench has also directed the court registry for bot entertaining such petitions in future.
The petitioner in his plea has alleged that he was not allowed to contest the recent Presidential polls.
The Environmentalists claims that if he is given a chance he will work for the betterment of the world.
In his petition he stated to hear him for two minutes. Citing the examples of Sri Lanka where citizens entered President’s home, talking of what is happening in Russia, he claimed to work for whole world where things are messy. He has added that the President’s role needs to be redefined.
The court however replied that if you are an environmentalist you can make speeches with your specialised knowledge but not this.
The bench then proceeded to dismiss the plea.
The court ordered that the petition is frivolous and an abuse of the process of the Court.
The court also said that the allegations made are expunged from the record and Registry are requested not to entertain such pleas in the near future.
