The Supreme Court has granted permission to former Unitech promoters, including Sanjay and Ajay Chandra, to approach Saket District Court in Delhi for regular bail.
The orders were passed by a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud on petitions filed by Sanjay and Ajay Chandra seeking clarification to move the Saket court to seek regular bail.
The top court of the country said in its brief order that it has permitted the petitioners to pursue their remedies in accordance with law and move the competent court for seeking regular bail.
However, the Bench clarified that it has not expressed any opinion on merits of any such application and it shall be duly considered by the Magistrate court concerned.
The Supreme Court had, in March 2021, set aside the January 13, 2021 order passed by the
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of the Patiala House Court, which granted bail to the former promoters of Unitech. The Apex Court had further directed the Chandra brothers to surrender before the Tihar Jail authorities.
The former Unitech promoters were currently lodged in two separate jails in Mumbai on the directions of the Apex Court.
