The Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear a PIL seeking declaration of Sanskrit as the national language and told the petitioner to approach the Centre, as this was a policy decision, which could only be taken by the Central government.
A Bench comprising Justice MR Shah and Justice Krishna Murari came down heavily on the petitioner, stating that it will not issue any order or notice on a petition, which was filed to gain publicity.
The Apex Court gave liberty to the petitioner to make an appropriate representation before the concerned authorities.
It said the relief sought in the petition required changes in the Constitution as well as the policy, which the Court could not do.
The Bench told the petitioner that though it shared some of your views, but the right forum to debate on this was Parliament.
