Shaukeen had demanded bail for treatment. He was first kept in its custody by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the year 2018. Then he escaped from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. However, he was later arrested again in December 2020.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant bail to former Delhi MLA Rambeer Shokeen to undergo surgery. The Court has asked the jail authority to take appropriate steps for the treatment of Shokeen.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, and Justices A.S. Bopanna and Hima Kohli refused to entertain a plea after noting that earlier he had absconded from police custody while being taken to the Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.

Shokeen had demanded bail for treatment. He was first kept in custody by the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2018. Then he escaped from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. However, he was later arrested again in December 2020.

Rambeer Shokeen is a close associate of gangster Neeraj Bawana. Shokeen was elected as an independent candidate from Mundka seat of Delhi Assembly in 2013. It was later revealed that he used the influence of a criminal gang to contest elections. Through this, he wanted to increase his political ambition and also wanted to get monetary benefits.
