The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a Bombay HC order mandating registration of FIRs against some builders and the officials of Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority (MHADA) related to a Rs 40,000-crore housing scam.

Earlier, the Bombay High Court bench of Justices S C Dharmadhikari and S K Shinde had directed Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to register a FIR against the officials of MHADA.

The bench had passed the order on the PIL filed by RTI activist Kamlakar Shenoy who alleged that 30 lakh sq mt area across Mumbai was supposed to be returned to MHADA.
