ILNS: The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde on Tuesday stayed the order of the Allahabad High Court, which had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to impose lockdown in the cities of Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Varanasi. The UP government had, on Monday, refused to follow the high court’s directive and said that while lives of people were important, so were livelihoods.
The UP government had moved the top court against this order on the ground that the High Court did not have the domain to issue such kind of directions.
