Supreme Court rejects plea seeking registration of case against Suvendu Adhikari for remarks against SC/ST

The Supreme Court today refused to hear a petition seeking registration of a case against West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari for allegedly making remarks against people belonging to the SC/ST category.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud allowed the petitioner to present his case through an intervention petition in the pending hearing before the Calcutta High Court.

On behalf of the Suvendu Adhikari, Advocate PS Patwalia said that the hearing on the matter was pending in the High Court.

He said the petitioner was a Minister in the Trinamool Congress government and this petition was politically motivated. Not only this, a new case was being filed everyday.

In fact, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court’s order to stay the proceedings in criminal cases registered in various police stations of the state against Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
