The Supreme Court will hear the plea by the Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy on January 5, 2024 in the case pertaining to a plea for the closure of cash-for-votes case of 2005, which held him as an accused.
A bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti passed an order to this effect today.
It is very important to note that Revanth Reddy is destined to be the next Telangana CM after the recent Congress win in the State assembly elections. Revanth Reddy defeated his nearest rival of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
In 2021, the top court had asked the Government of Telangana to express its views in the matter and stayed the trial against Reddy.
The matter was last listed in September 2021 before it came up for hearing today.
Reddy stands accused by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for paying Rs 50 lakh cash to an independent member of legislative council to vote in favour of a Telugu Desam Party nominee in 2015 MLC polls in Telangana.
The Congress leader, who was then in the TDP, had allegedly promised the MLC concerned another Rs 5 crore after the voting.
