Uddhav Thackeray approaches Supreme court against inviting Eknath Shinde to form government in Maharashtra

The Shiv Sena faction of Uddhav Thackeray has approached the Supreme Court against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s decision to invite Eknath Shinde to form government in the state.

Team Thackeray leader Subhash Desai has also challenged Monday’s Assembly proceedings, which saw the new Maharashtra Chief Minister getting through the test of majority.

As per the Thackeray faction, the 16 rebel MLAs against whom disqualification proceedings were pending, should not have participated in the vote.

A fresh disqualification proceedings have been moved against Uddhav Thackeray’s team against all the rebel MLAs, who voted in the Assembly to elect a new Speaker, as well as in the test of majority.

Proceedings have also been moved against new Speaker Rahul Narvekar from team Shinde for a no confidence motion.

Subhash Desai, in his petition, has requested the Supreme Court for deciding on the disqualification of MLAs.

Backed by BJP Eknath Shinde led a coup in the Shiv Sena against party chief Uddhav Thackeray, drawing most MLAs on his side and bringing down his government.

Mr Shinde has  sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister on June 30, with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.

CM Shinde sailed through a trust vote with 164 votes in the 288-member Assembly, which was way above the simple majority mark of 144. Surprisingly 99 MLAs only voted against him.

The Supreme Court is going to hear another case involving the disqualification notices served by team Thackeray to 16 MLAs, days after Eknath Shinde launched his revolt and now court has decided to take both cases simultaneously.

The decision may impact Eknath Shinde’s government.

Although Uddhav Thackeray has lost most of his party MLAs  in this game of power but who ever are left can be called as the pure Sena cadre.

So is the power for position that many corporators are also switching to Eknath Shinde’s faction, weakening Uddhav Thackeray’s control over Maharashtra civic bodies.
