The apex court on Tuesday (Sep 11) was told that since the Unitech has not been able to disburse the flat buyers’ money, management of Unitech must be taken over by the government.

During today’s hearing, the SC bench comprising CJI Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud sought to know as how many properties of Unitech has been auctioned and how much money has been generated through auction.

To which senior counsel Ranjit Kumar apprised the bench that Calcutta property has been auctioned for 122 crore subsequent to a public disclosure. And the auction was conducted under supervision of the committee constituted by the high court.

Kumar suggested that the people seeking possession of flats should approach the committee as completion of flats will require money, and the promoters are in jail already.

The matter will be heard again on Sep 19.
