The apex court on Tuesday (July 31) accepted the recommendations of expert committee which was constituted to suggest measures to rehabilitate Vrindavan widows and directed Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), which has an expertise in construction and related areas, to suggest ways to restore existing widows’ homes in all the states.
The court further directed National Commission of Women (NCW) and state women commissions to monitor the implementation of its order passed today.
During the course of proceedings, the bench comprising of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was informed that states Maharastra and Uttarakhand have not deposited the cost which was imposed by this court.
To which the bench said that Maharastra and Uttarakhand have got ample money to pay their counsels but not much enough to pay costs imposed by this court and imposed a cost of Rs one lakh more.
Later on while the bench was dictating the order, the counsel for State of Maharastra appeared and said that he has paid the cost on May 1, 2018.
