West Bengal Teacher Recruitment case: Supreme Court adjourns matter to October 18

The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the matter to October 18 in the Primary Teacher Recruitment scam case of West Bengal, involving former chairman of West Bengal Board of Primary Education and AITC MLA Manik Bhattacharya.

The Single-Judge Bench of Justice Anirudhha Bose passed the order, after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, contended that there was evidence of money trail in this case.

The SG today filed an affidavit in the case on behalf of ED.

The Apex Court was hearing the application filed by the AITC MLA, challenging the decision of the Calcutta High Court, which refused to stay the CBI summons issued against Bhattacharya in the case.

Earlier on September 30, while reserving its verdict, the top court of the country had accepted Bhattacharya’s demand for enhancement of protection from his arrest by CBI and while providing interim protection till further orders, directed him to cooperate in the investigation.

However, the Apex Court had clarified that there was no stay on CBI probe in the case.
