11 year old ‘Ashiana rape case’ has finally been closed after accused Gaurav Shukla was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by a fast track court in Lucknow.
‘Ashiana rape case’ dates back to May 2nd, 2005, when a 13 year old girl from Lucknow was kidnapped by 5 men, raped and tortured by lit cigarettes. Trial started last year in March, after the court rejected appeal by the accused.
The case was stuck as the main accused; Gaurav Shukla claimed that he was a juvenile during the incident. Juvenile Board took 3 years of ascertain Gaurav’s age, and then informed the court last year that he was not a juvenile during the incident. After that, trial started at full swing.

The fast track court at Lucknow reached the decision after stronger laws were enacted after the infamous 2012 Nirbhaya rape case at Delhi.
Out of the 5 accused, 2 have expired, 2 were earlier sentenced to 10 years of prison; and now Gaurav Shukla too will be sent to the prison for 10 years.
