The Delhi High Court today reserved its order on banning the screening of Boman Irani starrer comedy film, Santa Banta Pvt Ltd after hearing the petition filed by Delhi Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee(DGPC). The bench of Chief Justice Rohini and Justic Jayant Nath also directed Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, under whose banner the movie has been made, to provide the CD of the film as it will pass the orders only after watching the movie.
The petition filed by DGPC claimed that the movie, which also stars stand-up comedian Vir Das, actresses Neha Dhupia, Lisa Haydon and television actor Ram Kapoor, made fun of the Sikh community and their profession. The petition also said that it hurt religious sentiments.
The central government and producers of the film, however, argued that there was nothing defamatory about any community including Sikhs, in the film. The film was granted U/A certificate by the Censor Board and was due for release on March 22.
