Light Candles For 9 Mins At 9 pm on Sunday To End Darkness Of COVID: PM

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the people to come together on Sunday on 5th April switch off the lights of the houses at 9 pm and light a candle/lamp or torch or the flash light of the mobile to show our determination to overcome the curse of the COVID virus.

In a short video message to the people, the Prime Minister  lauded the people on the way they are handling the lockdown and fighting this pandemic and said, “In this time of lockdown the unity of the people of this country is significant.”

He also said that other countries are also maintaining social distancing and are learning from the way India is handling the situation. He also emphasised that the people should fight and help the poor in their fight against the pandemic as they are the most effected section of the society.

He also laid emphasis on the fact that no one should come out of their houses to gather at a place, the lighting of the candles should be done from balconies of the house or by standing at the gate of one’s house and that social distancing should always be maintained.

Earlier on the day of Janta Curfew i.e., on the 22nd March the Prime Minister had urged the people of the country to come out at the balconies or at the gates of their houses and as show off appreciation towards the Doctors and all the paramedical staff, a clapping session was held.

This is the fourth time the Prime Minister has addressed the country in these testing times. The entire country is under a 21 days lockdown which was imposed by Modi on 24th March citing that the chain of transmission of this highly contagious disease needs to be broken to curb the spread of coronavirus.
