The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking judicial inquiry and CBI probe into the Azad Mandi fire incident.

The Court said that it will be too early to institute a judiciary enquiry as adequate time should be given to the authorities to handle the situation.

The fire incident which took lives of over 43 laborers besides leaving several injured is one of the worst fire incidents in the history of India’s capital city.

On Sunday morning, a fire had broken out in a bag manufacturing factory in a crowded market in West Delhi’s Rani Jhansi Road area. The people who died in the incident were sleeping in the factory when the fire broke out.

After the incident, an FIR was registered against the factory owner Rehan for running the factory from a residential area and flouting safety rules and regulations.

Taking strong note of the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) had also sought a report from the Delhi police asking it submit details of the incident and the action taken thereafter.

The Kejriwal government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the family of the victims who died in the incident.
