The Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed the abortion of more than 20 week-old foetus after the doctors apprised the court and to the petitioner (who sought abortion) of the dire consequences of abortion of more than 20 week-old foetus.
At today’s hearing, one of the representative doctor was present in the court. She clarified the position that there was indeed a risk in conducting the surgery on the 6.5 month foetus.
The court explained risk to the Petitioner who duly acknowledged it.
“We have constituted a team of 6-member team comprising of doctors and experts from AIIMS to do or conduct the symptoms and consequences of the said surgery. The doctor, K Aparna Sharma is present and clarified the risk to the court of the said surgery and the same has been explained to the Petitioner. We thereby, allow the termination of pregnancy,” the single-judge bench of Justice C Hari Shankar said.
The court was hearing a plea filed by one Priyanka Shukla seeking abortion of abortion of more than 20 week-old foetus.
