Prisoners in MP jails will soon have routine medical check-ups

The Madhya Pradesh HC issued an important order on Thursday. Under this, the jail authorities have been asked to do regular medical check-up of all prisoners in all the jails of the state. Special emphasis has been given for enlisting the services of specialist doctors.

The case was heard before the Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice R.S. Jha and Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla. Jabalpur Superintendent, of the Government Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail, Shri JP Tamrakar was present in attendance in the court. The court has asked him to get instructions from the state government and inform the court about the tentative time period within which the vacant post of doctors in Central Jail, Jabalpur will be filled. At the same time, the court also provided that till the vacant posts are not filled, alternate arrangements of doctors should be made mandatory. In the matter, advocate Vijender Chaudhary filed a public interest petition and said that the regular medical checkups of prisoners are not being done.

3 posts approved in Jabalpur jail, only 1 posted

Tamrakar told the court that a total of three posts of doctors in Jabalpur Jail are approved, but presently there is only one doctor posted at the institution.
