The Madras High Court has sought response from Centre as well as the state government whether it was feasible for diabetic examinees appearing for public exams to carry necessary medicines like insulin.

The comprising Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice S S Sundar was acting on a PIL which sought directions to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the state education department to facilitate the Type I diabetic students to carry chocolates, candy, fruits, tablets and insulin pump in the examination halls.

The bench asked both the governments whether they had a proposal to add in Type I Diabetes as a disability under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act.
