NGT raps Delhi Pollution Control Committee for not tackling the issue of Bio-medical waste

The National Green Tribunal on Monday rebuked Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for not tackling the issue of Bio-medical waste.

The green panel was not convinced at the DPCC’s counsel contentions that at few places the problem has occurred and it was not serious concern.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said to the counsel: “You are aware of the repercussions of not properly disposing biomedical waste. Even if one single person gets infected by HIV it is not a small thing. Your inventory shows 16000 items and you’re authorised to keep 10000 items. There is a huge gap and what should be done, with this gap is the question involves here.”

The matter was posted for next hearing to July.

The bench was hearing a plea seeking direction for inventorisation of occupiers as required under the Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2016.
