AgustaWestland case: Delhi court extends ED custody of Rajiv Saxena by four days

A Delhi court on Monday (Feb 4) extended the Enforcement Directorate custody of Dubai-based businessman Rajiv Saxena by further four days in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal case.

On Jan 31, the Patiala House Court had sent Saxena who has been chargesheeted for money laundering in the caseto four days ED custody after the probe agency had sought eight days custody.

Saxena along with corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar were extradited from United Arab Emirates (UAE) for India in the case.

Special Public Prosecutor had told the court on Feb 2 that it wanted Saxena to confront lawyer Gautam Khaitan in the Rs 3,600 crore corruption case.

“Saxena in collusion with Khaitan provided corporate framework across the world to the embezzled money for disbursements to various bureaucrats, politicians, and air force officials to manipulate the contract for supplying 12 VVIP helicopters in favour of AgustaWestland,” SPP told the court.

SPP further stated: “Custodial cross-examination of the accused will assist in ascertaining the role of various accused persons in commission of money laundering, remittance of bribes, the money trail, and to bring to light how the bribes were channeled and laundered.”
