At sharp 10 AM, a sealed packet with the results of yesterday’s floor test reached Supreme Court, and the Judge was presented with the contents of it.
Out of 61 votes from MLAs, Congress received 33 votes, while BJP only managed to support of 28 MLAs. The Court said that as per report from the Principal Secretary, who was assigned as an observer, there were no irregularities during the floor test, and the entire exercise happened as per Supreme Court’s directives.
This way, Harish Rawat was declared as the winner of the floor test, and Congress is all set to resume their Governance in the hill state.
Soon after, AG Mukul Rohatgi informed the court that Centre will made the necessary modifications to roll back President’s Rule in the state, thereby enabling Harish Rawat to form the Government.
This is seen as a huge setback for BJP, as the results of floor test and the debacle of President’s Rule can adversely affect their prospects during the elections.
