P.Chidambaram’s Judicial Custody extended till 17th October; CBI state no objection to home cook food

The Special CBI Judge, Arvind Kumar Kuhar on Thursday extended the judicial custody of Mr. P Chidambaram, former Finance and Home Minister in the matter pertaining to the INX Media money laundering case till 17th October, 2019.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Chidambaram moved Supreme Court against the bail order of High Court dismissing his bail application. He has been lodged in the custody from last 42 days.

Senior Advocate, Mr. Kapil Sibal appearing for Mr. Chidambaram moved an application for seeking permission of court to allow home cooked food in Jail. He mentioned Mr. Chidambaram has lost more than 4 Kgs of weight during his stay in the jail and considering his health condition, the application must be allowed.

Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta appearing for the Central Bureau of Investigation did not raise any objection to the application; however, he mentioned that the application may become precedent for many other prisoners in the jail to ask for the similar treatment.

The Court after the brief hearing allowed the judicial custody till 17th October, 2019. Also, the court allows the home cooked food to Mr. Chidambaram once in a day.
