The Supreme Court Collegium has sent a proposal to the Central government recommending the name of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh of the Patna High Court as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
An official resolution was published on the website of the Supreme Court on Thursday in this connection. It said that Justice Singh, during his tenure of more than 11 years as a Judge of the High Court, has authored 1246 reported judgments, of which 562 were delivered during the past five years.
The Collegium further took into consideration the fact that at present the High Court of Judicature at Patna had no representation among the Chief Justices of High Courts.
It said the Collegium found Justice Singh fit and suitable for the appointment and resolved to recommend the same.
The post of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court has remained vacant since October 3 this year, after the retirement of Justice Subhasis Talapatra.
Justice Singh enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 after obtaining an LL.B. degree from University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre).
He was designated as Senior Advocate in September 2010 and was appointed as Additional Advocate General for Bihar in December that year.
He was elevated as an additional judge of the Patna High Court with effect from April 5, 2012. He was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in February this year.
