Supreme Court quashed the petition for cutting 100% water supply to liquor companies, filed by Maharashtra based activist Sanjay Kale. The bench led by Prafulla C Pant and DY Chandrachud said it is matter of policy and governance and the decision should be taken by them.
Sanjay Kale brought the petition to Supreme Court from Bombay High Court where the HC asked the Maharashtra government to cut the water supply by 60% to distilleries and breweries effective from 10th May. But, the application was dismissed as withdrawn by Supreme Court, although, he is allowed to raise the issue again in High Court.
Putting his point in front of court, Kale said that around 114 million people are suffering from water scarcity in the state and so there is urgent need for the apex court to take call on the issue.
Earlier, High Court had ordered 25% cut in the water supply to the distilleries and breweries which was later raised to 60%.
