Delhi High Court grants 6-months interim bail to Kanhaiya Kumar

The Delhi High Court today granted interim bail of six months to JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar who has been charged with sedition. The court also directed him to cooperate with the investigation.

Justice Pratibha Rani granted the conditional bail on a personal bail bond of Rs 10,000. The court also directed that a faculty member of JNU stands as surety for his release.

During the arguments on March 1, senior advocate Kapil Sibal appearing on behalf of the accused, submitted to the court that those who raised anti-India slogans inside the campus had their faces covered. He also questioned the conduct of the Delhi police on registering the FIR on the basis of a TV video.

Sibal further questioned the reported delay by Delhi Police in registering the FIR, asking why it was not done on the day of the event itself if Kanhaiya and others had raised anti-India slogans since cops were present in civilian clothes during the event and had witnessed the incident.
