The Supreme Court on Friday (February 23) quashed the criminal contempt proceedings initiated by the Delhi High Court against Additional District Judge Kamini Lau.
The Court passed the order observing that since an unconditional apology had been filed by Lau, there was no need for criminal contempt proceedings against her.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Amitava Roy, D Y Chandrachud instructed that the directions passed in the order of January 15 should be complied with.
Lau had challenged her criminal contempt notice in the top court after a Delhi High Court bench of Justices Valmiki Mehta and Indermeet Kaur had issued notice to her contending that “her averments tend to scandalize or lower the authority of the court”.
The Delhi High Court bench, in its order, had said: “…We found it unbelievable and unacceptable that the applicant/judicial officer has crossed all norms of acceptable behaviour and made personal allegations against the… single judge… including stating that the… single judge of this court is selectively targeting the applicant/judicial officer.”
