The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday (June 26) sought replies from Centre, UP government, Pollution Control Board and local bodies on the indiscriminate cutting of trees in Allahabad.
The court gave the order after taking suo motu cognizance of a newspaper report which highlighted cutting of 1,000 trees in Allahabad.
The matter will be next heard on July 23.
In August 2017, the Allahabad HC had lambasted the UP government for permitting cutting of trees on the land leased to a petitioner who had petitioned the court that the proposed food park coming up on the land leased to him will entail cutting of 6,000 trees thereby inflicting a heavy damage to the environment.
